Christopher R. Welch

Christopher Welch has served as a Senior Reactor Operations Engineer in the ITAAC and Generic Communications Branch in the NRC’s Office of New Reactors, Division of Construction Inspection and Operational Programs for the past four years. Chris’ responsibilities have focused on ITAAC improvement in regard to clarity and inspectability, developing a set of standard ITAAC, and ITAAC closure.

Mr. Welch joined the NRC in 1997 as a Reactor Engineer in Region 1’s Division of Reactor Safety. He later served as Resident Inspector at the R. E. Ginna and Pilgrim nuclear power stations before transferring to R-2 as the Senior Resident Inspector at the Surry nuclear power station.

Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Welch was a nuclear-shift test engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  Mr. Welch received a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and master’s degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA.
