Jacques Repussard

After graduating from the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, in Paris, Jacques Repussard spent the first part of his career in the French civil service, at the Ministry for Industry. He was involved in the EU negotiations leading to the opening of the European internal market, and in 1991 was appointed in Brussels as chief executive officer of the European Standards Organisation, with the mission of developing the thousands of harmonized norms that were necessary to operate effectively the new internal market. In 1997, he returned to France, where he took up the position of deputy director general of the Institute for Industrial Risks and the Environment, a new public institution created in order to reinforce environmental and health protection resulting from some industrial activities. In 2003, he was appointed as Director General of IRSN, which had just become independent from CEA. He has since then supervised the development of IRSN as a leading Technical Support Organization (TSO) in the international context. Jacques Repussard is also currently chairman of CSNI, the nuclear safety committee of OECD/NEA; president of ETSON, the European TSO network, and of MELODI, the European association for research on the effects of low dose ionizing radiation.
