Relaxation of Staff Position in Generic Letter 83-28, Item 2.2 Part 2 "Vendor Interface for Safety-Related Components" (Generic Letter 90-03, Supplement 1)

May 14, 1990

TO: ALL POWER REACTOR LICENSEES AND APPLICANTS

SUBJECT: RELAXATION OF STAFF POSITION IN GENERIC LETTER 83-28,
ITEM 2.2 PART 2, "VENDOR INTERFACE FOR SAFETY-RELATED
COMPONENTS" (GENERIC LETTER 90-03, SUPPLEMENT NO. 1)

Generic Letter 90-03, dated March 20, 1990, was issued to clarify the staff
position concerning Part 2 of Item 2.2 of Generic Letter 83-28 (Vendor
Interface for Safety-Related Components). Licensees and applicants were
requested to review their present vendor interface programs and modify them
as necessary to ensure that both of the elements described in Generic Letter
90-03 were included or have been scheduled for implementation.

The purpose of this supplement is to clarify the examples of key
safety-related equipment listed on page 2 of Generic Letter 90-03.
Subsequent to issuing the generic letter, we discovered that due to an
administrative error diesel generators and safety-related electrical
switchgear were inadvertently deleted from the list of examples of key,
safety-related components on page 2 of the generic letter. Therefore, the
last paragraph on page 2 of the generic letter should be modified to include
these two items.

This letter is for information purposes only and no specific action or
written response is required. Questions on this matter should be addressed
to the technical contacts listed in Generic Letter 90-03.

                                   Sincerely,

                                   James G. Partlow
                                   Associate Director for Projects
                                   Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
