The pump was withdrawn from stores and installed during an overhaul of the actuator. The function of the pump is to develop the hydraulic pressure to operate the actuator. During testing of the hydramotor actuator following the overhaul, the pump failed to develop hydraulic pressure. IP suspects that the pump did not develop pressure because it may not be fitted/ported properly. The pump assembly has been returned to ITT Barton for inspection. The pump assembly is ITT Barton part number NS109761EQX07. IP has not completed the evaluation of this condition required under the provisions of 10CFR, Part 21 and cannot do so until the supplier completes the inspection to determine the reason for the failure of the pump to develop pressure. ITT Barton has informed IP that the inspection of the pump assembly is scheduled to be complete by December 31, 1996. IP will evaluate the ITT Barton inspection results when received to determine the reportability of this issue under the provisions of 10CFR, U-602580 Page 2 Part 21 and will notify the NRC of the determination in a final report following completion of the evaluation. Additional information about this issue may be obtained by contacting J. W. Blount, Engineering Projects, at (217) 935-8881, extension 3638.
