Discussion:

This Morning Report provides information concerning a Unit 2 reactor trip that occurred on August 27, 2006. While operating at 99.7% of full rated thermal power, the number 4 reactor coolant pump (RCP) tripped. Since the reactor was operating above the P-8 setpoint, an automatic reactor trip was generated on single reactor coolant system (RCS) loop low flow. Auxiliary feedwater (AFW) automatically started on steam generator low-low level as expected. The reactor was stabilized and is currently being maintained in Mode 3 (Hot Standby) using AFW and condenser steam dumps.

The licensee is conducting troubleshooting to determine the cause of the RCP number 4 trip. If the licensee determines that the RCP motor must be replaced, the unit will likely be taken to Mode 5 (Cold Shutdown) to facilitate the repair which would be in excess of 72 hours.
