Discussion:

On November 1, 2003, a region-based inspector identified a contract worker apparently asleep inside the containment building during an outage. The individual was dressed in personnel contamination clothing, but was not in a contaminated or high radiation area at the time. The inspector attempted to get a nearby member of the licensee's staff to witness the fact that the individual was asleep, but this person declined. The inspector awakened the individual and then reported the incident to appropriate members of licensee management. On November 2, the inspector found another contract worker who was apparently asleep.

This information is being provided because Region IV subsequently found out that the three contract workers involved were terminated over the incidents.

REGIONAL ACTION: This incident is being reviewed for possible radiation worker issues. No additional action is planned.
