TO LAY OFF EMPLOYEES - RIII TERMINATES STRIKE CONTINGENCY PLAN
Discussion:
On June 8, 2001, Exelon Corporation announced that IBEW Local 15 ratified
an agreement with Exelon on a new collective bargaining agreement. The
three-year agreement will expire on March 31, 2004. IBEW Local 15
represents approximately 7500 workers at Exelon involved in nuclear power
facilities, electricity transmission and distribution, and
administration. About 2200 of those affected by the contract are nuclear
power facility workers, including both NRC-licensed and non-licensed
members of the plant staffs. The involved nuclear power plants are
Braidwood, Byron, Dresden, LaSalle, Quad Cities, and Zion. The workers at
Clinton, also operated by Exelon, are under a different union contract.
On June 13, 2001, Exelon notified IBEW Local 15 of its intention to lay
off 292 employees represented by the Local 15 bargaining unit across the
company. Of that total, 138 employees work for Exelon Nuclear at the
Braidwood, Byron, Dresden, LaSalle, Quad Cities and Zion stations and at
the Corporate Office.
Regional Action:
Region III has terminated its Strike Contingency Response Plan and is
monitoring plant operations through routine inspection activities.
