Purpose
The NRC is sponsoring a workshop on the SCALE/MELCOR non-LWR source term demonstration project to prepare for safety reviews of non-LWR license applications. The workshop will cover the use of SCALE and MELCOR for modeling accidents for different classes of non-LWRs and include the following:
• An overview of the reactor class;
• SCALE methods for predicting core fission product inventory, decay heat, and reactivity feedbacks as well as sample SCALE results; and
• MELCOR methods for predicting core heat up and fission product release during an accident as well as sample MELCOR results.
A workshop on the sodium-cooled fast reactor will be held on September 20, 2022.
