W9 Blazing New Trails in Emergency Preparedness and a Demonstration of FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System

The knowledge, skills, and experience gained over the past 50 years of radiological emergency preparedness (EP) have equipped the NRC to blaze new trails in EP for new nuclear technologies like small modular reactors, non-light water reactors, fusion machines, floating nuclear power, and microreactors. Now is the time to move onwards and upwards! The next 50 years promise to be an exciting journey for EP. Although technology is changing, the risks and hazards faced are familiar and manageable. This session will feature a diverse panel of subject matter experts to discuss what is to come in radiological EP over the next 50 years. This will include a demonstration of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).
