Use of Physical Protection Modeling and Simulation (ModSim) Tools to Optimize Security Plans

Sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response

This digital exhibit will discuss the use of computer-based ModSim tools to support physical security planning at commercial nuclear facilities, as well as the steps the NRC is taking to prepare licensing and inspection staff to conduct reviews of licensees' use of these tools. Existing licensees at operating facilities are already using such tools to enhance their facility security plans. This topic is expected to become even more important as NRC staff anticipate that advanced reactor applicants will rely more heavily on results from ModSim tools to support proposed security plans for new facilities.
