Stewart Magruder

Mr. Magruder is the Chief of the Small Modular Reactors Licensing Branch 1 in the Office of New Reactors.  His responsibilities include developing and implementing an Advanced Reactor Program to prepare for expected applications related to the design, construction, and operation of small modular reactors.  He joined the NRC in 1989 as an inspector in the Vendor Inspection Branch in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  He has served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Enforcement; Chief of the MOX Branch in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards; and as a project manager for risk-informed initiatives, the ABB-CE System 80+ design certification, the CE Owners Group, and the Nuclear Energy Institute in NRR.  Prior to joining the NRC, he was a U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Officer and a mechanical design engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Mr. Magruder received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Johns Hopkins University.
