Due to a lapse in appropriations, the NRC has ceased normal operations. However, excepted and exempted activities necessary to maintain critical health and safety functions—as well as essential progress on designated critical activities, including those specified in Executive Order 14300—will continue, consistent with the OMB-Approved NRC Lapse Plan.

Yamir Diaz-Castillo

amir is a Reactor Operations Engineer in the NRC's Quality Assurance and Vendor Inspection Branch in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and has been with the NRC for 24 years. Prior to joining the Branch, he worked in the Division of Engineering in both the Office of Nuclear Regulation and in the Office of New Reactors, dealing with steam generators and chemical engineering issues for the current fleet of operating reactors as well as with the new design of nuclear reactors. Yamir is the NRC's representative in several ASME Section III Code committees and is currently a lead inspector in Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.  Yamir also serves the lead NRC representative in the Nuclear Procurement Issues Corporation. Yamir is the NRC's technical expert for activities associated with the NRC's recognition of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation process for domestic and international commercial calibration and testing services and the author of both the Safety Evaluation Report and Regulatory Issue Summary that describes the NRC's recognition of the ILAC accreditation process. Yamir has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
