Due to a lapse in appropriations, the NRC has ceased normal operations. However, excepted and exempted activities necessary to maintain critical health and safety functions—as well as essential progress on designated critical activities, including those specified in Executive Order 14300—will continue, consistent with the OMB-Approved NRC Lapse Plan.

Taunia Jean Sandquist

Taunia Sandquist has built a distinguished career spanning over 35 years across diverse fields, including engineering, safeguards and security, environmental management, construction and as a Quality Assurance expert. On the international stage, she represents the United States on the IAEA Task Group for "Codes and Standards, Design engineering, Testing, and Manufacturing of Components of Small Modular Reactors" She serves on ASME Board of Nuclear Codes and Standards (BNCS) and is currently the Chair of the NQA-1 Committee. During her career Taunia has worked and managed people and projects at numerous nuclear and chemical operating facilities and DOE laboratories. For the last 30 years she has worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Taunia brings the unique battlefield perspective of being the engineer, the project manager, being audited, being the auditor, and having to take the stand when something has gone wrong-offering a rare and comprehensive understanding of the challenges and complexities that face the nuclear industry.
