Joseph Kanney

Dr. Joseph Kanney is a hydrologist who leads the external hazards research activities in the Fire and External Hazards Analysis Branch (FXHAB) in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES). Dr. Kanney's areas of expertise include surface and groundwater hydrology, hydrometeorology, and external hazards assessment, especially probabilistic flood hazard assessment. He has worked at NRC for 15 years, all of those in RES. Before coming to NRC, Dr. Kanney worked at Sandia National Laboratories mainly on performance assessment for deep geologic repositories for nuclear waste (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant and Yucca Mountain).
