Age Discrimination Act of 1975

The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 (hereinafter Age Act) prohibits discrimination on the basis of age in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. The law states, in part, that:

[N]o person in the United States shall, on the basis of age, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under, any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

The Office of Small Business and Civil Rights (SBCR), Civil Rights Program, is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Age Discrimination Act, investigating Age Discrimination Act-related complaints, and providing technical assistance to recipients of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) financial assistance. The NRC has promulgated regulations that implement the Age Discrimination Act.
