Abstract

This addendum to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, documents the staff’s analyses of the potential cumulative impacts of transporting spent nuclear fuel in the vicinity of a single high-level waste repository, and summarizes the staff’s analyses undertaken to determine whether the environmental impacts of the transportation of higher enrichment and higher burnup spent nuclear fuel are consistent with the values of 10 CFR 51.52, Table S-4. The intent of the study is a generic analysis of the cumulative impacts associated with transportation of spent nuclear fuel as a result of nuclear power plant license renewal. The results of the analysis will be used to amend 10 CFR Part 51.53 and Appendix B to Subpart A of 10 CFR Part 51, and is not intended to support any other regulatory decision by the NRC. This addendum also includes the appendix that summarizes on the draft of the addendum, and documents the staff’s responses to those comments.
