NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS TO MEET IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a technical meeting June 2-4 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in conference room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

Here is the complete meeting agenda:

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2

8:30 - 8:45 a.m. -- Opening remarks by the ACRS Chairman;

8:45 - 10:15 a.m. -- Hydrogen control exemption request for the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3;

10:30 a.m. - noon -- Status of the pilot application of the revised inspection and assessment programs;

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. -- Proposed risk-based performance indicators;

2:45 - 4:15 p.m. -- Performance-based regulatory initiatives and related matters;

5:15 - 7:00 p.m. -- Discussion of ACRS reports.

THURSDAY, JUNE 3

8:30 - 8:35 a.m. --Opening remarks by the ACRS Chairman;

8:35 - 10:00 a.m. -- Use of converted onsite costs in regulatory analyses;

10:15 - 11:15 a.m. -- Development of low-power and shutdown risk program;

11:15 - 11:45 a.m. -- Strategy for ACRS review of license renewal activities;

12:45 - 2:15 p.m. -- Options for crediting existing programs for license renewal;

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. -- Proposed resolution of generic safety issue (GSI-165) spring-actuated safety and relief valve reliability;

3:30 - 4:00 p.m. -- Report of the joint ACRS/ACNW working group;

5:00 - 7:15 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

FRIDAY, JUNE 4

8:30 - 8:35 a.m. --Opening remarks by the ACRS Chairman;

8:35 - 9:30 a.m. -- Perspective on nuclear safety and the regulatory process;

9:30 - 10:00 a.m. -- Discussion of proposed site visit to the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station and meeting with the NRC Region I personnel;

10:15 - 10:45 a.m. -- Future ACRS activities;

10:45 - 11:15 a.m. -- Report of the planning and procedures subcommittee. (A portion of this meeting may be closed to discuss organizational and personnel matters);

11:15 - 11:30 a.m. -- Reconciliation of ACRS comments and recommendations;

12:30 - 5:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports;

5:00 - 5:30 p.m. -- Miscellaneous.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the agency's public hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory committee group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities.

While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters set forth in a Notice of Meeting published in an upcoming edition of the Federal Register. ACRS meeting agendas, transcripts, and letter reports are available on the Internet.
