Change to Meeting Time and Location

PREHEARING CONFERENCE SCHEDULED ON SHEARON HARRIS PLANT LICENSE AMENDMENT

A Nuclear Regulatory Commission Atomic Safety and Licensing Board has changed the time and location of a prehearing conference May 13 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for parties in a proceeding involving a proposed license amendment for the Shearon Harris nuclear power plant.

The conference will begin at 10:00 a.m. (rather than 9:30 a.m. as previously announced). It will be held in the Southern Human Services Center, Main Meeting Room, 2505 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill (rather than the Chapel Hill Post Office Building as previously announced). If necessary, the conference will continue the following day at the Homestead location, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Carolina Power & Light (CP&L) is seeking a license change to permit the use of two remaining spent fuel pools in the plant's fuel handling building, doubling storage capacity. The Board of Commissioners of Orange County, North Carolina, has petitioned for a hearing on the CP&L request.

At the conference, the Licensing Board will hear arguments on the Board of Commissioners' standing as an intervenor and the admissibility of its contentions. The Licensing Board will issue an order later ruling on these questions. Other parties taking part will be CP&L and the NRC staff.

The conference will be open to the public only for observation.
