NRC, UTILITY TO DISCUSS HADDAM NECK RADIOLOGICAL CONTROLS
Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with representatives of Northeast Utilities on Thursday, October 23, to discuss the radiological controls program at the Haddam Neck nuclear power plant in Haddam, Conn.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the Upper Merion Township Building, 175 West Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia, Pa. The municipal building is located at the intersection of Route 23 and Henderson Road. It will be open to the public for observation.
Last March, the NRC issued a letter to plant owner Northeast Utilities confirming it had agreed to take several steps aimed at improving the Haddam Neck radiological controls program. The commitments were prompted by several problems indicating continuing weakness in the management and control of radiological work at the facility.
At the October 23 meeting, NU will describe improvements, both achieved and planned. Such a meeting is required prior to the utility eliminating any of the interim compensatory measures, including radiological work restraints, that were previously put in place as the result of NRC-identified weaknesses.
