25TH ANNUAL NRC WATER REACTOR SAFETY MEETING
TO BE HELD OCTOBER 20-22 IN BETHESDA, MD.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's 25th annual Water Reactor Safety Information Meeting, featuring presentations and discussions on a number of leading technical topics, will be held October 20-22 at the Bethesda, Md., Marriott Hotel.

Participants will include representatives from the NRC, U.S. government laboratories, private contractors, universities, the Electric Power Research Institute, reactor vendors, and a number of foreign agencies.

NRC Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson will deliver the keynote speech at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, at the opening plenary session. A panel discussion on risk-informed regulation will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Herbert J.C. Kouts, a member of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, will speak after lunch on Wednesday.

During the three-day meeting, presentations will be made in 12 technical areas - pressure vessel research, boiling water reactor strainer blockage and other generic safety issues; environmentally assisted degradation of light water reactor components; update on severe accident code improvements and applications; human reliability analysis and human performance evaluation; technical isues related to rulemakings; risk-informed, performance-based initiatives; high burnup fuel; thermal-hydraulic research and codes (two sessions); digital instrumentation; and control and structural performance.
