POTENTIAL STRIKE AT HONEYWELL SPECIALITY CHEMICALS

Discussion:

On June 21, 2007, the contract between the United Steelworkers of America (USW) Local 7-669 and the Honeywell Special Chemical's Honeywell Metropolis Works Plant expires. The USW represents about 250 hourly operations and maintenance employees.

The USW local has authorized a strike should negotiations not be successful. The licensee plans to shut the plant down during the last shift before any strike.

This information is current as of 8:00 a.m., June 15, 2007.

Regional Action:

Region II personnel have evaluated the licensee's strike contingency planning and actions. Region II is implementing the strike preparation inspection program and will implement the program for inspection during a strike if one occurs. This would include 24-hour inspection coverage during restart and initial operation if the licensee were to operate without striking staff.
