Discussion:

This information is current as of 10:00 a.m. (EDT) on April 6, 2004. The plant is currently in Mode 1 at 100% percent power. The plant performed a down-power evolution April 5 to establish plant conditions to support de-energizing the D2 non-essential 4.16 kV switchgear bus and replacement of a faulty feeder breaker to the D2 bus. The feeder breaker was identified as faulty when, during a routine breaker swap preventive maintenance evolution, the breaker failed to open using the remote control switch. Following the down-power evolution, the D2 bus was de-energized, and the breaker was removed from the enclosure. The D2 bus was re-energized via the normal alternate power source, and the plant returned to 100% power. The replacement breaker will be installed following completion of trouble-shooting efforts on the faulty breaker. Around-the-clock resident inspector coverage was utilized to monitor plant evolutions and maintenance activities.

The Davis-Besse Oversight Panel will continue to monitor plant activities utilizing enhanced inspection oversight coverage. For non-routine evolutions occurring after normal working hours, enhanced inspection oversight coverage will continue to be expanded to monitor these activities.
