Information Notice 2002-25: Challenges to Licensees' Ability to Provide
Prompt Public Notification and Information During An Emergency
Preparedness Event dated August 26, 2002
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is issuing this information notice
(IN) to alert addressees to licensee problems with the Alert and
Notification System and the Emergency Alert System and to the effect of
call-inhibiting devices such as the "TeleZapper". This IN is intended to
ensure that licensees are able to provide prompt public notification and
information during an emergency preparedness event.

Subject: Issuance of Regulatory Issue Summary 2002-14
Regulatory Issue Summary 2002-14, Proposed Changes to the Safety System
Unavailability Performance Indicators dated August 28, 2002
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is issuing this regulatory issue
summary to inform addressees that beginning on September 1, 2002, the
agency will start a 6-month pilot program to evaluate changes to the
safety system unavailability performance indicators. The pilot program
will be assessed midway through the test period to determine if more than
six months are needed to obtain meaningful results.
