Subject: Recirculation Riser Piping Weld Crack Repairs
Reportable Event Number: 36416

Discussion:

During routine inspections performed on reactor vessel recirculation
riser piping, the licensee identified two of the eight risers had cracks
in welds. The cracks were in the safe-end to nozzle portion of the "B"
and "D"recirculation risers. There were a total of three cracks
identified. The licensee is currently in the process of performing weld
over-lays at the crack locations. The plant was shut down on October 22,
1999, to initiate refueling outage 16. The weld over-lays will be
completed prior to start-up. Contact: Melvin Leach - (630)829-9705

included a modification to the digital rod position indication system, an
overhaul of the 2A essential service water pump, replacement of the 2A
reactor containment fan cooler motor, refurbishment of the 2B low
pressure turbine, and performance of a containment integrated leak rate
test.

Regional Action:

The resident inspectors monitored the startup activities.
