Subject: DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER SHUTDOWN FOR PLANNED REFUELING OUTAGE

Discussion:

On October 21, 1999, at 12:00 p.m. (CST), the Duane Arnold Energy Center
operations personnel initiated a reactor shutdown in preparation for
refueling outage 16 (RFO 16). The generator was disconnected from the
grid on October 22 at 1:15 a.m. Major activities, in addition to
refueling the reactor, planned during this outage include: 1) noble metal
chemical addition analysis; 2) over-haul of the "B" low pressure turbine;
3) 4160V IA2 switchgear over-haul; and 4) replacement of all main turbine
electro-hydraulic control system servos.

Regional Action:

Resident inspectors observed portions of the reactor and plant shutdown
activities and will inspect various outage activities.
