Subject: NMPC AND NEW YORK STATE ELECTRIC AND GAS CORP. (NYSEG) ANNOUNCED
SELLING NMP 1 AND 2 TO AMERGEN ENERGY COMPANY

Discussion:

In a 7:30 a.m. news release today, NMPC announced the pending sale of
Nine Mile Point Unit 1 and their 41 percent interest in Unit 2 to AmerGen
Energy Company. AmerGen is a joint venture of PECO Energy Company and
British Energy. NYSEG also announced the pending sale of their 18 percent
share of Unit 2. The remaining ownership shares of Unit 2 (Long Island
Power Authority - 18 percent, Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. -
14 percent, and Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. - 9 percent) were not
included in the proposed sale agreement. The options available to the
Unit 2 co-tenants include: matching the AmerGen offer; participating in
the sale; or retaining their ownership interest.

The completion of the sale of Unit 1 (wholly owned by NMPC) and the
Unit 2 shares is anticipated to occur early next year following approval
by NRC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and New York State Public
Service Commission.
