Public Meeting Schedule: Meeting Details

The purpose of this second presubmittal meeting, between Arizona Public Service Company (APS) and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff, is to discuss APS's planned partial Exemption from the regulations in 10 CFR 50.62, "Requirements for reduction of risk from anticipated transients without scram (ATWS) events for light-water-cooled nuclear power plants," using the Risk-informed Process for Evaluations (RIPE) for the elimination of a diverse auxiliary feedwater actuation system at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2, and 3 (Palo Verde). In addition, the NRC staff will provide its expectations on the proposed exemption request, provide feedback from observation of the Palo Verde integrated decision-making panel (IDP), and allow APS to ask for any additional clarifications prior to its submittal. The discussion will also address special circumstances, human factors associated with manual operator actions to activate auxiliary feedwater system, defense-in-depth, and safety margins.
