Purpose
The purpose of this meeting is to provide information about the proposed rule to incorporate by reference American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes into the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations. Specifically, the NRC intends to incorporate by reference the 2019 Edition of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) Code and the 2020 Edition of Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants, Division 1, OM Code: Section IST. The NRC is also intends to incorporate by reference the 2011 Addenda to ASME NQA-1-2008, “Quality Assurance Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications,” (ASME NQA-1b-2011), and the 2012 and 2015 Editions of ASME NQA-1. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on March 26, 2021 (86 FR 16087). The public comment period is open through May 26, 2021.

The NRC staff will discuss the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2019 2020 Code Editions proposed rule, published in the Federal Register on March 26, 2021 (86 FR 16087). The NRC staff will discuss the key provisions of the proposed rule, including conditions proposed to be added, modified, or deleted. This meeting provides an opportunity for the NRC staff to hear insights and answer questions from members of the public about the ASME 2019-2020 Code Editions rulemaking effort. Attendees are strongly encouraged to read the proposed rule language available on www.regulations.gov using Docket ID NRC-2018-0290, prior to the meeting. No regulatory decisions will be made during this meeting.
