To solicit feedback from external stakeholders regarding a conceptual process called TRIO. The TRIO process would leverage the NRC’s inspection oversight of fuel vendors to gain efficiency in licensing reviews of the implementation of safety analyses for fuel and reactor system performance based on NRC-approved topical reports. TRIO’s aim is to perform detailed reviews of the safety analyses as part of inspection activities instead of licensing reviews. The NRC staff expects this to allow the NRC to exercise a similar level of oversight with a reduction of resources. In addition, the inspections would allow for continuing oversight of the reload safety analysis process rather than an one-time review for each licensee. Overall, TRIO is expected to provide a more efficient and holistic approach to confirm proper implementation of the safety analyses in order to ensure public health and safety.
