Public Meeting Schedule: Meeting Details

On October 18, 2018, Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) transmitted a letter and a whitepaper to NRC’s Executive Director of Operations (EDO) (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML18303A098, and ML18303A106). That whitepaper entitled, “Facilitating Regulatory Transformation through an Understanding of the Current Levels of Safety,” provided NEI’s views on the current level of safety of the U.S. nuclear fleet and how understanding the margin of plant safety to the NRC Safety Goals is foundational to the transformation of the regulatory process. The whitepaper also provided specific recommendations on how the margins to plant safety could be considered to modify a number of regulatory processes. The purpose of this meeting is to provide NRC’s high-level plans to incorporate NEI’s proposal within the construct of the entirety of its regulatory framework.
