Purpose
To conduct a public scoping meeting for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC’s) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Waste Control Specialist LLC (WCS) license application to construct and operate a consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) for spent nuclear fuel at the WCS site in Andrews County, Texas. The EIS is being prepared to support NRC’s review of the April 28, 2016 application by which WCS requested authorization to initially store 5000 metric tons uranium (MTUs) in the CISF and eventually to store up to 40,000 MTUs there. WCS is requesting a 40-year license term.
At the meeting, NRC staff will receive comments from the public on the appropriate scope of issues to be considered in, and the content of the EIS. The formal public meeting will be preceded by an informal “open house” for 1 hour starting at 6:00pm, to provide members of the public with an opportunity to talk informally one-on-one with NRC staff.
