Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (ENO) plans to perform volumetric examinations of primary coolant system branch connection Alloy 600 welds during the next refueling outage at the Palisades Nuclear Plant, scheduled in the fall of 2015. These inspections are to satisfy the inspection requirements of 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6)(ii)(F). Since demonstrated techniques for volumetric examinations of the subject weld joint configurations do not currently exist, ENO is working with the industry to develop the examination techniques in an expedited manner so that the inspections can be performed in the next refueling outage. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the activities underway to develop the examination techniques, the anticipated challenges ahead in developing the examination techniques for the refueling outage, and to discuss a possible relief request due to the lack of code guidance for performing the inspections.
