Purpose
To conduct a public scoping meeting for the NRC’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed termination of NRC Materials License SUB-1435 for the Depleted Uranium (DU) Impact Area at Jefferson Proving Ground in southeastern Indiana. The EIS will be prepared to support of NRC’s review of the U.S. Army’s 28 August 2013 license amendment application, Decommissioning Plan and Environmental Report, requesting that NRC terminate the license under restricted conditions, in which case the Army would leave DU and unexploded ordnance in place at the DU Impact Area and continue to maintain institutional controls in the area. At the meeting, NRC staff will receive comments from the public on the appropriate scope of issues to be considered in, and the content of the EIS. The formal public meeting will be preceded by an informal “open house” for 1 hour starting at 6:00pm, to provide members of the public with an opportunity to talk informally one-on-one with NRC staff.
