On 25 August 1994, Philadelphia Electric Company notified Coltec Industries, Fairbanks Horse Engine Division (FMED) that the subject item "displayed abnormal ware and pitting which is believed to have been caused by a mismatched bracket". The subject item is manufactured by Fairbanks Morse Engine Division. All U.S. nuclear power stations with FMED 81/8 Opposed Piston Emergency Diesel Generator Sets are potentially affected. An investigation into the nature and extent of this problem is currently under way by FMED Engineering. At this time: however, the potential impact, root cause, and corrective action are indeterminate. A final report will be made available as soon as the formal evaluation is completed.
