SCHEDULE AND OUTLINE FOR DISCUSSION 121ST ACNW MEETING SEPTEMBER 19-21, 2000

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2000, CROWNE PLAZA, BALLROOM B & C, 4255 SOUTH PARADISE ROAD, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
1) 8:00 - 8:05 A.M. Opening Statement (Open) (BJG/HJL)
The Chairman will open the meeting with brief opening remarks, outline the topics to be discussed, and indicate several items of interest.
2) 8:05 - 9:00 A.M. ACNW Planning and Procedures (Open) (BJG/All)
The Committee will review items under consideration at this meeting and:
2.1) Review issues/topics for the 121st meeting (HJL)
2.2) Review issues that will be brought before the Committee during the October and November 2000 meetings (HJL)
2.3) Review use of Consultants and consultant reports
2.4) Receive an update on meetings with the NRC staff on the Yucca Mountain Review Plan (YMRP) and YMRP Task Action Plan (RKM)
2.5) EDO responses to ACNW Letter Reports (LGD/ACC/MTM/JNS)
2.6) Review an updated Site Suitability and License Application Action Plan (LGD)
2.7) Approve Committee/staff projected travel plans
Special Session - Key Technical Issues(KTI)
3) 9:00 - 9:45 A.M. Issue Closure (Open) (GMH/LGD)
Mr. Bill Reamer, NMSS, will discuss the considerations involved with KTI closure and what closure does and does not represent.

4) 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. KTI - Unsaturated and Saturated Flow Under Isothermal Conditions (Open) (GMH/LGD)
Mr. Neil Coleman, NMSS, will discuss the partial closure of this KTI, viz., the unsaturated zone flow.
5) 11:00 - 12:00 NOON KTI - Igneous Activity(Open) (GMH/LGD)
Dr. John Trapp, NMSS, will discuss the considerations associated with the closure of this KTI.
  12:00 - 1:00 P.M. ***LUNCH***
6) 1:00 - 4:30 P.M. Public Comments (Open) (BJG/AS)
The Committee will hear comments from stakeholders. Representatives from the following have indicated their intent to participate:
6.1) State of Nevada
6.2) Nye County
6.3) Clark County
6.4) Nevada Nuclear Waste Task Force
6.5) Lincoln County
6.6) Eureka County
7) 4:30 - 5:30 P.M. 2001 Action Plan Issues (Open) (BJG/RKM)
The Committee will discuss potential technical review activities for the upcoming year.
8) 5:30 - 6:00 P.M. Miscellaneous (Open) (BJG/HJL)
Discussion of matters related to the conduct of Committee activities and matters and specific issues that were not completed during previous meetings, as time and availability of information permit.

A project overview will be provided by R. Dyer, DOE
11) 8:30 - 9:15 A.M. Site Recommendation Considerations Report (SRCR) (Open) (BJG/LGD)
A status report on the SRCR will be provided by S. Brocoum, DOE
12) 9:15 - 12:00 NOON Total System Performance Assessment - Site Recommendation (TSPA-SR) (Open) (BJG/ACC)
The major aspects of the TSPA-SR will be presented by Bob Andrews, M&O and A. Van Luik, DOE

13) 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. Chlorine 36 Issue (Open) (RGW/ACC)
An update on this issue will be provided by Bill Boyle, DOE and M. Peters, M&O
14) 2:00 - 3:15 P.M. Fluid Inclusion Issue (Open) (RGW/LGD)
A panel composed of representatives of UNLV, DOE and NV, will discuss the results of their studies on the fluid inclusion issue

15) 3:30 - 4:30 P.M. Site Status - Tour (Open) (BJG/HJL)
A pre-site Yucca Mountain tour update will be provided by M. Peters, M&O. The topics will preview relevant activities and tour stops scheduled for 9/21 ACNW site tour
16) 4:30 - 6:00 P.M. Preparation for October Commission Briefing (Open) (All)
The ACNW will finalize its topics/viewgraphs for the next public meeting with the Commission, currently scheduled for October 17, 2000. Suggested topics include:
16.1) Site Sufficiency Review (GMH/LGD)
16.2) Risk-Informed Regulation in NMSS (BJG/JNS)
16.3) Part 71 (Transportation Issue) (ML/AS)
16.4) ACNW Action Plan and priority topics (BJG/RKM)
16.5) European Visit (ML/AS) - if time permits

       Yucca Mountain Site Tour (BJG/AS)
       Site tour specifics to be finalized

  • Presentation time should not exceed 50 percent of the total time allocated for a specific item. The remaining 50 percent of the time is reserved for discussion.

  • Number of copies of the presentation materials to be provided to the ACNW - 35.
  • ACNW meeting schedules are subject to change. Presentations are frequently canceled or rescheduled to another day.
