Abstract

An integral assessment has been performed of the FRAPTRAN transient fuel behavior code designed to analyze fuel rod thermal and mechanical behavior during a range of transients with fuel burnup to 65 GWd/MTU. This assessment was performed for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to quantify the predictive capabilities of FRAPTRAN. The FRAPTRAN predictions are shown to compare satisfactorily to a selected set of experimental data from reactivityinitiated accident (RIA), loss-of-coolant-accident (LOCA), and other transient operating conditions.
