Civil Rights

The Civil Rights Program administered by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provides for the prompt, fair, and impartial processing of discrimination complaints filed under the following statutes (as amended):

Some of the links on this page are to non-NRC servers and websites and are provided solely as a reference for the convenience of users. NRC cannot guarantee the authenticity of documents or the validity of information obtained at these non-NRC websites. See our Site Disclaimer for more information.

In so doing, the NRC's Civil Rights Program helps to eliminate or modify procedures and practices that give rise to valid discrimination complaints that are filed under these statutes.

The NRC's Equal Opportunity discrimination complaint process for complaints filed under Title VI and Title IX is administered in accordance with the regulations established by the U.S. Department of Justice. Similarly, the NRC’s Employment Discrimination Complaint Process is administered in accordance with the regulations of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), as defined in Title 29, Part 1614, of the Code of Federal Regulations (29 CFR Part 1614). As such, the discrimination complaint process is available to agency employees, former employees, and applicants for employment with the NRC, who believe that they have been subjected to discrimination based on any of the following factors:

  • race, color, or national origin
  • religion
  • gender
  • age (40 and over)
  • mental or physical disability
  • sexual orientation

The NRC's discrimination complaint process is also available to agency employees, former employees, and applicants, who believe that they have been subjected to reprisal for participating in an activity that is protected by the civil rights statutes listed above, or oppose practices made unlawful by those statutes.
