NRC, ENVIROCARE TO HOLD OPEN MEETING

AT THE CONCLUSION OF FACILITY INSPECTION

Media and interested citizens invited to attend.

Officials of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Envirocare of Utah, Inc. will hold an open public meeting Thursday, January 30 at which they will discuss the results of a routine inspection of the facility conducted by the NRC. Members of the press and the public are invited to observe the meeting. NRC officials will be available afterwards to answer questions. The NRC typically opens such meetings when officials anticipate public interest.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Envirocare's low-level waste disposal facility near Clive, Utah.

The inspection being conducted January 27-30 is part of the NRC's routine, periodic inspection program. The inspection is a follow up to a November 1996 inspection and is concerned with ensuring that the facility is operating in compliance with NRC regulations and Envirocare's NRC license.
