Reporting of a noncompliance involving Safety Relief Valves supplied to Duke Energy Corporation and Commonwealth Edison Company Notification Letter Dated April 14, 2000 (Received at NRC Document Control Desk April 18, 2000)

Gentlemen:

Dresser Valve Division 10 CFR Part 21 Investigation, documented under file number 2000-01, is closed. The following corrective actions have been taken.

Corrective measures taken on products delivered to customers/end users.

Valves were returned to Dresser Valve Division, Alexandria, Louisiana under Customer Complaint /Retum Authorizations 9967R and 9969R. The valves were processed through Dresser Valve Division's repair program to return them to acceptable conditions and returned to the two customers.

Corrective measures taken on products in current production or stock.

Five parts in stock at the factory were processed under the Dresser Valve Division's internal nonconformance report numbers 93794, 93795, and 93796. The stock parts were dispositioned as scrap.

Corrective measures taken by Dresser's supplier, and taken within the Dresser Valve Division, Alexandria. Louisiana facility quality system.

Dresser Valve Division Corrective Action Request QA2000-20 resulted in revision to their purchasing requirements to ensure inclusion of material upgrade requirements in purchase orders to suppliers performing upgrades of materials that will be used in products for nuclear service.

Dresser Valve Division Corrective Action Request QA2000-21 resulted in the supplier of the nonconforming castings, American Foundry Group, Inc., Muskogee, OK, revising their quality program to provide requirements for processing orders to ensure the correct upgrading of castings.
