Subject: 10CFR Part 21 Interim Report 2000-05-0

Dear Madam or Sir:

We recently observed 10CFR Part 21 Interim Report 2000-05-0 on the NRC web site.

Clinton Power Station stated that although ITT Barton manufactured the suspect components in question, ASCO has responsibility for this material. This is not the case since ITT Barton has responsibility for all material they manufactured prior to the acquisition of General Controls by ASCO. Accordingly, we have notified ITT Barton via the attached letter.

Please update the NRC web site to reflect this additional information. Please also feel free to contact me by telephone at 973-966-2354 or by fax at 973-966-2551, if you would like additional information.

Very truly yours,

Edward J. Fox

Dear Mr. Holdredge:

This letter is to notify you of a problem that may exist with Nuclear Grade ITT General Controls Pump Kits manufactured at your ITT Barton facility.

We recently obtained a copy of the attached letter from AmerGen to the NRC dated January 14, 2000. As you can see, it discusses a potential problem with two ITT Pump Kits (NS 109761 AQ and NS 109761 EQX 07) manufactured by ITT Barton. We have evaluated two kits returned from AmerGen and confirmed the nonconformance they describe in the attached letter.

ASCO General Controls does not have the records available to determine if additional pump kits were manufactured by ITT Barton prior to the acquisition of General Controls by ASCO. ASCO General Controls has never manufactured or supplied these kits.

Once you have completed your investigation of this problem, we would appreciate hearing from you concerning your findings and corrective action taken.

Very truly yours,

Edward J. Fox
Director, Quality Assurance
