    The Chairman will open the meeting with brief opening remarks, outline the topics to be discussed, and indicate several items of interest.

    The Committee will review items under consideration at this meeting and:
    2.1) Review and affirm assignments and commitments made a the 122nd meeting (AS/MSK)
    2.2) Staff review issues/topics/status reports for November 123rd meeting agenda (HJL, et al.)
    2.3) January 2001 - March 2001 ACNW Meeting Activities (HJL, et al.)
    2.4) Review progress on the Transportation Task Action Plan (ML/RKM/AS)
    2.5) EDO responses to ACNW Letter Report:
ACNW recommendations from Site visits in the UK and France, Mary 15-19, 2000
    2.6) Discuss potential topics for upcoming public meeting (9:30-11:30 a.m., January 18, 2001 - tentative) with Commission (HJL)
    2.7) CY 2001 ACNW Meeting Calendar (HJL)
    2.8) EDO's list of future meeting topics

    The Committee will discuss planned reports on the following topics:
    3.1) 10 CFR Part 40 Improvements (GMH/RKM)
    3.2) Transportation Considerations (ML/RKM)
    3.3) Entombment Option (RGW/HJL)
    3.4) Alloy C-22 Degradation (RGW/ACC)

4) 1:00 - 1:15 P.M. CST Objectives of ACNW's CNWRA Review (Open) (BJG/LFD)
    The ACNW will discuss the objectives of its review of the of the CNWRA's research and technical assistance program.
5) 1:15 - 2:15 P.M. CST Program Overview: Developing Review Capability and RiskInformation for Pre- and Post-Closure (Open) (GMH/LFD)
    The Committee will hear a programmatic overview from representatives of the NRC and CNWRA staff addressing:
    5.1) Proposed Regulatory Framework
    5.2) Regulatory Guidance for SR and LA Reviews
    5.3) Analytical Tools: TPA and PCSA codes and process-level codes
    5.4) Staff Capabilities (NRC, CNWRA, and consultants)
    5.5) Field and Laboratory Experimental Facilities (Wes Patrick, CNWRA and TBD).

6) 2:30 - 4:00 P.M. CST Progress toward KTI Issue Resolution (Open) (GMH/LFD/AS)
    The Committee will discuss and hear overview presentations from the CNWRA and NRC staff regarding:
    6.1) Relationships among issue resolution, SR review, decision to docket an LA, and LA review and SER preparation activities
    6.2) Overview of issue resolution process: objectives, time-line, and overall approach/method
    6.3) Overview of resolution status: subissue closure status of each KTI, remaining sub-issues, DOE/NRC agreements and path forward.
7) 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. CST ACNW's Sufficiency Review, and Task Action Plan (TAP) (Open) (ALL)
    The Committee will discuss the ACNW's TAP, its approach to conducting a sufficiency review, its proposed vertical slices and a consultant report on the NRC-DOE saturated zone technical exchange.
8) 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. CST Discussion of Proposed ACNW Reports (Open)
    The Committee will continue its discussion of proposed ACNW Reports.

    The Committee will hear a presentation from CNWRA staff on the TPA external review and current and planned code capability.
10) 10:15 - 12:30 P.M. CST Capability of NRC staff to Evaluate Risk-Significance of Information Submitted by DOE for Postclosure (Open) (BJG/ACC)
    The Committee will hear presentations from the CNWRA and NRC staffs on staff capability and risk insights including:
    10.1) analytical tools and methods to evaluate relative importance of KTIs/ISIs
    10.2) parameter level sensitivity analyses techniques
    10.3) post-processor techniques
    10.4) philosophy to address uncertainty
    10.5) use of TPA code to support decision-making for SR and LA.
  12:30 - 1:30 P.M. ***LUNCH***
11) 1:30 - 2:45 P.M. CST Pre-Closure Safety Analysis (PCS Tool) (Open) (ML/AXS)
    The Committee will discuss and hear a presentation from CNWRA staff on the following:
    11.1) overview and status of PCSA tool
    11.2) example application
    11.3) emerging risk insights.
  2:45 - 3:00 P.M. ***BREAK***
12) 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. CST Alloy C-22 Studies (Open) (RGW/ACC)
    The Committee will review the DOE waste package material selection and degradation studies and applicable CNWRA confirmatory studies.
13) 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. CST Draft NRC/RES Plan for Waste Research (Open) (GMH/RKM)
    The Committee will hear a briefing and discuss the Draft Plan for Research Supporting the Nuclear Waste Safety Arena.
14) 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. CST Discussion of Proposed ACNW Report
    The Committee will continue its discussion of proposed ACNW reports.

15) 8:30 - 10:30 A.M. CST Tour of Experimental Facilities (HJL)
    The Committee is scheduled to tour the following CNWRA experimental facilities:
    15.1) geochemistry and radio chemistry
    15.2) hydrology and thermal-hydrology
    15.3) structural geology analog facility
    15.4) materials, corrosion, and glass testing
16) 10:30 - 12:00 Noon CST Investigation and Importance of Coupled Processes Related to Repository Design (Open) (RGW/RPS)
    The Committee will discuss ongoing CNWRA coupled processes investigations; e.g., thermal effects on flow and thermal-mechanical effects and TPA analyses.
17) 12:00 - 12:30 P.M. CST Miscellaneous (Open)
    The Committee will discuss matters related to the conduct of Committee activities and matters and specific issues that were not completed during previous meetings, as time and availability of information permit.

  • Presentation time should not exceed 50 percent of the total time allocated for a specific items. The remaining 50 percent of the time is reserved for discussion.
  • Number of copies of the presentation materials to be provided to the ACNW - 35.
