W24 Reactor License Renewal: Research Supporting Long-Term Operation (Part 2 of 2)
The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) are sponsoring a two-part technical session for NRC staff, industry stakeholders, and international participants to discuss issues regarding reactor license renewal. This second session, led by RES, will include discussions of ongoing research activities to support the second, and subsequent, license renewal periods. These activities include the joint NRC and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Expanded Materials Degradation Assessment, the NRC’s Proactive Management of Materials Degradation project, DOE’s Light Water Reactor Sustainability Program, the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) long-term operations research (LTO), and a proposed joint DOE and industry pilot project to examine the issues that a nuclear power plant might need to address as part of a second license renewal application.
