DOE-NRC Workshop on Advanced Non-Light Water Reactors
Welcome to the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Workshop on Advanced Non-Light Water Reactors. This page is intended to provide information on recent workshops and updates about upcoming workshops.
The DOE and NRC held the first Advanced Non-Light Water Reactors Workshop on September 1-2, 2015, and the second workshop on June 7-8, 2016. A third workshop is being planned.
These workshops are intended to allow key stakeholders to share perspectives, reach a common understanding, identify potential challenges, and explore opportunities. These workshops continue the initiative to explore options for increased efficiency, from both a technical and regulatory perspective, for safely developing and deploying advanced non-light water reactors. In these workshops, DOE and NRC staff will discuss advanced non-light water nuclear reactor concepts and licensing issues with participants including reactor design vendors, suppliers, electric utilities, academia, national labs, non-government organizations, and other federal agencies. The discussions will cover both near- and longer-term opportunities to test and demonstrate new concepts, build non-light water reactors, and enhance appropriate licensing processes and guidance.
