Fusion Program Roadmap
The NRC, in coordination with the Agreement States, developed a roadmap to visually represent the path to successful deployment of commercial fusion technology. The graphic depicts three parallel roads with milestones that must be accomplished to achieve the first design certification of commercial fusion machines: technical readiness, regulatory preparedness, and industry progress. Continued execution of the NRC’s Vision & Strategy for fusion, ADVANCE Act commitments, Agreement State coordination, and stakeholder engagement will drive successful implementation of a risk-informed, performance-based, design-specific regulatory framework for fusion machines in a timeframe that meets the needs of the fusion industry.
