Mr. Halnon began his career in 1981 as a system engineer for the fossil fleet at Florida Power Corporation in St. Petersburg Florida. He later moved into nuclear as a system engineer for the Crystal River Nuclear Plant in HVAC and mechanical-thermal systems. Mr. Halnon has over 30 years in engineering, operations, regulatory affairs, quality, and line management of nuclear power stations. He has held two Senior Reactor Operator licenses and is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the state of Florida. He was the plant general manager at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station and was the point man in leading the station through the Hot Leg crack event in 2000/2001. He was also the Plant Operations Manager for Salem Units 1 and 2 during 2003-2004. He has extensive B&W and Westinghouse plant experience and spent 12 months at the BWR Perry Nuclear Power Plant during recovery from NRC Acton Matrix Column 4 activities. He now heads the Small Modular Reactor efforts for FirstEnergy, serves as the Project Director for the mPower Industry Team, and provides oversight on several NEI Working Groups.
Mr. Halnon received his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida after doing undergraduate agricultural technology research for Virginia Tech. He completed the INPO Senior Plant Managers Professional Development in 1997. He is a qualified ABET evaluator for the American Nuclear Society and performed accreditation review visits for the nuclear engineering programs at Purdue University, University of Missouri at Rolla and Three Rivers Community College.
Mr. Halnon is a life member of the American Nuclear Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He served as the president of the Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce from 2001 to 2004. He presently serves as the Minister of Music for Northampton Bible Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
