The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) ensures the safe, secure, and responsible use of nuclear materials and technologies in the United States. Guided by the Principles of Good Regulation and the agency’s core values of integrity, service, openness, and excellence, the NRC protects public health, safety, and the environment through risk informed rulemaking, licensing, oversight, and incident response. The agency also regulates the safe production of nuclear fuel, the storage and transportation of spent fuel and high-level waste and supports the safe deployment of advanced reactor technologies to meet the nation’s evolving energy needs.
To support these responsibilities, the NRC applies the Leadership, Excellence, Accountability, and Discipline (LEAD) Framework to resolve safety and security issues, make informed regulatory decisions, and ensure modern, risk informed, and efficient oversight.
The NRC’s Annual Regulatory Information Conference (RIC) is the agency’s flagship public forum and one of the world’s leading nuclear regulatory conferences. Bringing together more than 3,000 participants from over 40 countries, the RIC offers an open, inclusive space for government, industry, international organizations, and the public to engage directly with NRC leadership and technical experts. The hybrid format expands access to plenary sessions, technical discussions, digital exhibits, and tours of the NRC Operations Center, allowing participants everywhere to engage with timely regulatory topics, emerging technologies, research findings, and global safety and security issues.
Through transparent dialogue and diverse perspectives, the RIC strengthens understanding of the NRC’s strategic direction, regulatory priorities, and the evolving nuclear landscape. It reinforces the agency’s commitment to openness, collaboration, and continuous refinement, supporting meaningful and lasting engagement within the nuclear sphere long after the conference concludes.
