NRC NAMES NEW MANAGERS IN ATLANTA REGIONAL OFFICE

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced several managerial changes in its Region II office in Atlanta. The Region II office covers the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Jon Johnson has been appointed Deputy Regional Administrator; Loren Plisco has been appointed Director, Division of Reactor Projects; Charles Casto has been appointed Deputy Director, Division of Reactor Projects; Bruce Mallett has been appointed Director, Division of Reactor Safety, succeeding Johns Jaudon who will retire in July 1998. In the interim, Mallett will serve as DRS Deputy Director. When Mallett assumes the DRS Director position in July, Victor McCree will become DRS Deputy Director.

Jon Johnson joined the NRC in 1978 after serving nine years as a U.S. Navy officer. He began his NRC career as a reactor inspector, has held a number of progressively more responsible positions and was most recently Director, Division of Reactor Projects in Region II. Johnson received a B.S. degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a M.E. degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia.

Loren Plisco joined the NRC in 1982 as a reactor inspector after serving as a U.S. Navy submarine officer. He progressed through several positions and was the Deputy Director, Division of Reactor Projects in Region II before his new appointment. Plisco received a B.S. degree in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a M.S. degree in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University.

Charles Casto joined the NRC in 1985 as an operating license examiner after serving in the Air Force and working in the commercial nuclear power field, including time as a licensed reactor operator and instructor. Casto has held several positions in the NRC with his most recent being Deputy Director, Division of Reactor Safety. He received a B.S. degree in Nuclear Science from the State University of New York and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Georgia.

Bruce Mallett joined the NRC in 1980 as a Health Physicist after teaching at Purdue University and serving as the Radiation Safety Officer for a hospital. Dr. Mallett has held various positions in the NRC and was most recently the acting Deputy Regional Administrator. He received a B.S. degree in biology and a M.S. degree in biochemistry from Wright State University, and a Ph.D. in health physics from Purdue University.

Victor McCree joined the NRC in 1988 as an operations engineer after serving in the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer and on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. He has served in a number of NRC positions and was most recently Deputy Director for Policy Development and Technical Support in the Office of the Chairman. McCree received a B.S. degree in oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy and has completed post-graduate studies in nuclear engineering at the University of Virginia.
