Subject: PLANT SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR SECONDARY LEAK

Discussion:

On September 27, 2000, the licensee completed a shutdown of Palo Verde
Nuclear Generating Station Unit 3, to repair a cracked seal weld on a
Steam Generator 2 sample line. The cracked seal weld was on a 3/8-inch
diameter sample line fitting located inside the containment building. The
crack in the weld resulted in a leak from the secondary system of
approximately 8 gallons per hour. The plant is currently in Mode 5 to
repair the cracked weld.

Regional Action:

Resident inspectors will continue to monitor licensee followup activities
associated with the plant shutdown.
