Subject: Plant Startup Following Refueling Outage
Discussion:
On October 27, 1999, Dresden station personnel synchronized the Unit 2
main generator to the electrical grid, ending a planned refueling outage.
The outage officially commenced on October 1, 1999. Following completion
of planned outage activities, operators commenced a reactor startup on
October 26, 1999; the reactor was made critical later that day and the
main generator synchronized the next day. The outage duration of 25 days
and 12 hours sets a ComEd record for the shortest duration refueling
outage. Major activities accomplished during the outage included: noble
metals injection, oscillating power range monitor modification
installation, chemical cleaning of the main condenser, 2A reactor
recirculation pump motor replacement, overhaul of the 2B low pressure
turbine, main generator hydrogen seal replacement, and bulk outage work.
Regional Action:
The resident inspection staff monitored portions of the startup and power
ascension activities. The residents monitored the plant outage
activities.
