Subject: POTENTIAL FUEL LEAK AT PRAIRIE ISLAND UNIT 1

Discussion:

Through routine reactor coolant samples, the licensee has identified a
potential fuel leak on Unit 1. The potential fuel leak appears to have
developed sometime following a routine gaseous activity sample taken on
August 15. The radioactive gaseous activity levels, while having
increased, appear to still be low and have stabilized. Dose equivalent
Iodine levels have not shown any significant increase and are well below
the Technical Specification Limits of 1.0 micro-Curies/gram. The licensee
has increased the gaseous activity sampling frequency from 3 times per
week to daily.
